Caregivers:
Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Laying Position

1. Unfold a new brief. Refold it in half down the center lenght-wise to form a hotdog bun type of shape.

With the user laying on his or her side, insert the brief between the legs.

Unfold and spread out the rear part of the brief so that the wetness indicator is aligned with the spinal column.

Center the absorbent pad in the crotch area.

2. Roll the user onto his or her back.

Unfold the front panel, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point the penis downward.

Make sure the brief is positioned high in the groin folds. This should allow the product to fit to the contour of the body.

3. Secure the tape.

For a laying position, we recommend securing the bottom tapes first, which will ensure a snug fit in the crotch.

We also recommend that you hold the tape by the base where it is attached so that you don't accidentally rip the tape completely off the product when you are attaching it.

Pull the tape slightly before attaching it to ensure a snug fit that will not be uncomfortably tight. The lower tapes (by the legs) should applied with a slightly upward angel, while the upper tapes (on the waist) should be positioned horizontally or at a slight downward angle.
4. Smoothe out any wrinkles in the product as shown above.

We recommend that you leave a small amount of material between the lower tape and the leg to prevent irritation from the stiff edges of the tape.

Caregivers:
Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Standing Position

1. Unfold the sides of a new brief.

2. Be sure the sides are completely unfolded before beginning the application process.
3. Refold the brief in half down the center lenght-wise to form a hotdog bun type of shape.

With the user's legs slightly spread, insert the brief between the legs from front to back to avoid transmitting germs.
4. Spread out the rear part of the brief so that the wetness indicator is aligned with the spinal column.

Center the absorbent pad in the crotch area.

If the user is able, have him or her hold the back in place while you position the front.
5. Position the front panel, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point the penis downward.

Make sure the brief is positioned high in the groin folds. This should allow the product to fit to the contour of the body.

Secure the tape. If the user is able, have him or her hold the front panel securely in place.

For a standing position, we recommend securing the top tapes first, which will ensure the brief is secured while you ensure a snug fit in the crotch.

We also recommend that you hold the tape by the base where it is attached so that you don't accidentally rip the tape completely off the product when you are attaching it.

Caregivers:
Applying a Pant and Liner System
in the Standing Position

1. Fold the liner in half down the center lenght-wise to form a hotdog bun type of shape.

2. Position the pant on the user by pulling the pant in the proper wearing position. Then pull the waistband down toward the knees, leaving the leg openings in place. If you have just removed a used liner, the pant should already be positioned.

With the pant pulled downward, and the user's legs slightly spread, insert the liner between the legs from front to back to avoid transmitting germs. The smaller end goes toward the front, and the larger end goes toward the back.
3. Spread out the rear part of the liner so that the wetness indicator is aligned with the spinal column.

Center the absorbent pad in the crotch area.

Pull the back of the pants up over the liner
4. Position the front panel, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point the penis downward.

Pull up the pant in the front and position the liner and the pant for an optimum fit.

Users:
Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Standing Position Using a Wall

This is the first of two standing self-application methods we will describe. This method is the easier of the two standing methods, and may be appropriate for users who are not able to stand or balance for any length of time. However, because this method uses a wall, it may not be appropriate in public restrooms where there may be sanitary or privacy concerns, or in places where there is no span of wall available for leaning against. In these cases, we recommend using the application method described below.

If you have discovered any additional self-application methods that you find effective, we'd love to hear them and share them with our other users! Please email us your methods at mytips@newfreedomsolutions.com.

Directions:
  1. Unfold the sides of a new brief with the sides are completely unfolded before beginning the application process (as illustrated in #1 and #2 shown to the right).

  2. Refold the brief in half down the center lenght-wise to form a hotdog bun type of shape. With your legs slightly spread, insert the brief between them as shown in illustration #3.

  3. Center the absorbent pad in the crotch area and slightly . Spread out the rear part of the brief over your bottom.

  4. While holding the back in place, lean your bottom again a wall, as illustrated by the grey area in illustration # 5.

  5. With the wall securely holding the back of the brief in place, position the front panel, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point the penis downward.

Make sure the brief is positioned high in the groin folds. This should allow the product to fit to the contour of the body.

  6.  Secure the tape. For a standing position, we recommend securing the top tapes first, which will ensure the brief is secured while you ensure a snug fit in the crotch.

We also recommend that you hold the tape by the base where it is attached to the brief so that you don't accidentally rip the tape completely off the product when you are attaching it.

Pull the tape slightly before attaching it to ensure a snug fit. The lower tapes (by the legs) should applied with a slightly upward angle, while the upper tapes (on the waist) should be positioned horizontally or at a slight downward angle.

  7. Smoothe out any wrinkles in the product and make any adjustments necessary for your maximum comfort.

We recommend that you leave a small amount of material between the lower tape and the leg to prevent irritation from the stiff edges of the tape.

Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Standing Position (No Wall)

This is the second of two standing self-application methods we describe. This method is requires more dexterity, and may not be appropriate for users who are not able to stand or balance for any length of time. However, because this method does not use a wall, it may be appropriate in public restrooms where there may be sanitary or privacy concerns, or in places where there is no span of wall available for leaning against, or for quick application once the technique is mastered.

If you have discovered any additional self-application methods that you find effective, we'd love to hear them and share them with our other users! Please email us your methods at mytips@newfreedomsolutions.com.

Directions:

  1. Unfold the sides of a new brief with the sides are completely unfolded before beginning the application process (as illustrated in #1 and #2 shown to the right)

  4. Once the brief is positioned, squeeze your legs together tight enough to hold the product in place.

  5. Position the front panel by centering it on your lower stomach.

  6.  While holding the front panel in place with one hand, reach behind with your other hand to grab one side of the back panel. Open the upper tape tab on one side and secure the back panel to the front.

We recommend that you hold the tape by the base where it is attached to the brief so that you don't accidentally rip the tape completely off the product when you are attaching it.

  7.  Once one upper tape tab has been secured, reach around the other side and grab the back panel. Pull it to the front, position it snugly around your waist and secure the upper tab. The upper tabs should ideally be positioned horizontally or with a slight downward angle.

  8. With the product secured around your waist by the upper tabs, you can then relax your legs and position the absorbent pad in your crotch, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point the penis downward.

Make sure the brief is positioned high in the groin folds. This should allow the product to fit to the contour of the body.

  9. Affix the lower tabs by pulling the tape slightly before attaching it to ensure a snug fit. The lower tapes (by the legs) should applied with a slightly upward angle.

  10. Smoothe out any wrinkles in the product and make any adjustments necessary for your maximum comfort.

We recommend that you leave a small amount of material between the lower tape and the leg to prevent irritation from the stiff edges of the tape.

Users:
Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Side Laying Position (on the side)

This is the first of two laying self-application methods we describe. This requires less leg strength than applying a brief from a back laying position, but does require the user to roll from a side position to a back position.

  2.  With the brief fully opened so , lay the product under your legs close to your bottom with the backing against the bed and the absorbent pad is facing upward. Be sure that the side with the tapes is closest to your bottom.

  3. With your knees bent, lift your hips off of the bed enough to slide the brief under your bottom, and lower yourself onto the brief.

  4. Be sure the absorbent pad is centered in the crotch area, and that the brief is centered under you from side to side. You may need to lift your hips again until the brief is properley centered.

  5.  Once you are satisfied with the positioning of the back of the brief, reach down between your legs to grab the front panel, pulling it up toward your waist.

  6. Center the front panel comfortably on your waist. Give the absorbent pad a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point your penis downward.

Make sure the brief is positioned high in the groin folds. This should allow the product to fit to the contour of the body.
  7.
Position the flaps snugly, and secure the tapes.

  8. Smoothe out any wrinkles in the product and make any adjustments necessary for your maximum comfort.

We recommend that you leave a small amount of material between the lower tape and the leg to prevent irritation from the stiff edges of the tape.

Applying a Conventional Brief
in the Laying Position (on the back)

This is the second of two laying self-application methods we describe. This method requires enough leg strength to lift your hips off of the bed for a brief period of time.

  2. While laying on your side, insert the length-wise folded brief between your legs. Be sure that the back of the brief with the tapes are toward your back.

  3. Unfold and spread out the rear part of the brief as fully as you can. Center the absorbent pad in the crotch area.

  4.  Once it is spread, tuck the flap of the brief under the hip on which you are laying to the extent that you are able.

  5.  Roll onto your back.

  6. Unfold the front panel, giving it a slightly cupped shape in the crotch. The inner cuffs should fit snugly against the groin.

For male users, point your penis downward.
